This building was damaged during the last world war. It was finally rebuilt in 1987 after complicated political diatribes and delays in bureaucracy . This theatre is considered one of the most avant-garde in Europe, thanks to its exceptional scene equipment.
At the centre of this Piazza there is a large, circular, bronze fountain and three new fountains that were added in 2001 for the G8 summit meeting. On the corner between the Carlo felice Theatre and the Accademia Ligustica di Belle Arti you will find the Monument of Giuseppe Garibaldi.
This elegant street connects the Circonvallazione a Monte with the city centre; the Galleria Mazzini, that runs parallel, hosts a livelyantique and book fair during festivals and holidays.
This Piazza is the point where the Circonvallazione a Monte, the tunnels in the direction of the Strade Nuove and the various modern city routes meet. It is near to the parks of Acquasola and Villetta Di Negro and also the elegant Carignano quarter, location of The Villa Croce Modern Art Museum that has over 3000 paintings, sculptures and drawings.
