The Half Marathon of Genoa, known as “ La Mezza” has been established as one of the most attractive and fascinatingroutes at international running level.
The starting point of the race is in the Porto Antico or Old Port of Genoa, wonderfully restored by the architect Renzo Piano on the occasion of the Columbus celebrations of 1992; here visits to the Aquarium of Genoa and the Galata Museum are highly recommended.
The route winds around the historic center of Genoa, made memorable by the greatest Genoa songwriter-singers. The maze of picturesque alleyways and piazzas contain some of the most priceless artistic treasures of the city like the Cathedral of San Lorenzo.
After the historic center you arrive in Piazza De Ferrari, the center of the modern city, with the Palazzo Ducale and the Carlo Felice Theater, and you turn down the nineteenth century Via XX Settembre towards the sea.
After reaching the seaside the run continues eastward up to the fishing village of Boccadasse to then return back towards the city, passing the trade fair of Genoa and taking an elevated freeway, the Sopraelevata, open for competing runners for that day only.
From the Sopraelevata you can admire a unique panoramic view of the port of Genoa with its elegant maritime station, the historic center and the hills that frame the city.
You run right down the Sopraelevata until you reach Fiumara, to then return back along the same route towards the Porto Antico where the finishing line is located.
Two other events will offer you to discover the most beautiful areas of Genoa : The “Corri Genova 2015″ event, on a shortened route of 13 km; and the Family Run where you can have fun with your kids running or just walking on a 3.5 km route that is mainly flat.
